Alpha Mom Must List: Sh*tty Mom Book
The Chelsea Handler of the future is pissed. Because when she sits down to write her parenting book (yes, I know I’m making big assumptions here, just stick with me), she’ll realize that the book she wants to write has already been written. It’s called Sh*tty Mom, and it’s hysterical, brutally honest with a dash of the politically incorrect.
Sh*tty Mom is billed as The Parenting Guide for the Rest of Us, written by a team of four moms which includes a stand-up comedian. But, really it’s a book for every mom. Because each one of us hits what I call THE WALL– the day when moms seriously think they’re being punk’d by someone controlling their life– and that is the day that this book needs to come off the book shelf.
I read it after a particularly challenging week of parenting and all I could think of was Wow, this would make a great mom gift. But not for the new moms of babies that are still on what I call their “mom-honeymoon.” Those moms are still madly in love with their babies, toddlers or preschoolers. Nope, this book is for when reality sets in and mom hits that proverbial wall, because we all do at some point.
THIS is the book to wrap up for a new mom with a note attached that reads “Only to be opened 3 years from now.” By then, those moms are not only starting to get it, they’ll NEED this book.
Almost ten years into parenthood now, I can confidently say that the Sh*tty Mom authors scarily nail the truth about parenting in these times. But ultimately as with all good parenting books, the underlying final message is that you are not alone and everything’s going to be alright (which I personally never tire of hearing).
Now, if only there were a Sh*tty Mom television show I could watch….
