Holiday-Themed Gifts

By Isabel Kallman

I LOVE holiday-themed gifts. Loved them as a young child, couldn’t care less about them as a teenager and young adult and have become enamored again now that I am a mom. Moms are suckers for tradition; teenagers, not so much.

Here are some ideas that serve as nice gifts or stocking stuffers.

Calendars

This Make Your Own Calendar is a New Years-themed gift and my son and I have loved filling ours out. The calendar comes with hundreds of stickers with which to populate. Stickers for family members’ birthdays, holidays, vacations and other special events. There’s also plenty of space each month to highlight a special piece of artwork.

New use for bubble wrap? Genius. The Bubble Calendar hit the scene a couple of years ago and shouldn’t be forgotten. It’s a poster-sized annual calendar that comes in different versions (US, Australian, British, Canadian, New Zealand) and also horizontally.

Snow Globes

I have become an expert on “snow globes” as I pick one up on every out-of-state business trip that takes me through an airport.

I bought this Austrian-made snow globe (by Perzy) last year and it is by far the very best I have ever seen. Most snow globes have a pinch of glitter in them. But this one? It’s a blizzard when you shake it. On this particular snow globe, I love the way the some snow stays on the snowman’s hat after the blizzard has passed. (I bought another one to gift my son this holiday.) Also, the photos of Perzy snow globes on the web do not do it justice. (I’m going to try to take a good shot of mine.)

Surprise Balls

I love the idea of reaching down into a stocking and pulling out a ball of crepe paper which as you unwind (how festive!) trickles out trinkets, confetti and more. You can find some for different occasions, but I love the holiday themed ones.

Puzzle Ball Ornament

Don’t you love these puzzle balls? It’s a 3D puzzle! This one is then converted into a Christmas tree ornament. (Psst. They even have Twilight ones.)
