100th Day of School Crown Craft!
It’s been brought to my attention that I have never done a One Hundredth Day of School craft. I must rectify this! The 100 Days of School is celebrated by many kindergarteners across the country, on obviously their 100th day of school. It’s usually a fun day including some activity that requires counting to one hundred, a rite of passage for many at this age.
If you are looking for something for your child to bring to school on their hundredth day, maybe this craft will be just your speed. But if it’s too much crafting don’t worry there are so many other things to do to celebrate the occasion. Like bringing to school… one hundred pennies, rocks, buttons or even tissue flowers!
Supplies needed for our 100th Day of School Crown
- card stock (the thickest your printer can handle)
- our 100th Day of School crown template click here to print
- 100 small pom poms in your color of choice
- kid-approved clear-drying white glue
- exacto knife and self-healing mat*
- tape and or a stapler
Directions to Make your 100th Day of School Crown
First print out the 100th Day of School Crown Template on card stock. Then cut out it out along the black lines with an exacto knife. You could use scissors but it’s really hard to get inside the zeros, so make sure to have an adult do this step ahead of time. Then attach the long white strips to each side of the “100” section with a piece of tape or staple it with a stapler. The long strips will be way too long. This is so you can adjust it to fit whatever size head might be wearing the crown.
Now you are ready to apply the pom poms! Pour white glue into a small bowl. Count out 100 pom poms and put them in something like a bowl, so they don’t roll away. This is a great part of the craft to do with your child. Organize the pom poms into groups of ten and make little piles so the kids don’t lose track of them.
Then one by one, dip each pom pom into the glue and stick it onto the 100th Day of School Crown. Don’t worry if fingers get messy or glue gets on the wrong side of the pom pom. White glue dries out clear and it will look fine at the end. Make sure to have wipes handy, or make a trip to the sink when you are done because fingers are going to get a little bit sticky.
One thing to remember: White glue does take a while to dry so you might need to make this a two-day process if you are experiencing cold wet weather like we are or you live in a humid climate. If you can’t wait a day, you might need to cheat and break out your glue gun* and re-glue all the pom poms when your child isn’t looking. Whatever you do, make sure all the pom poms are properly glued down before you attempt to wear this crown. The last thing you need is a sad sticky crown flopping over on your kid’s head and 100 pom poms getting stuck in your kid’s hair.
