Mother’s Day Brunch
Looks like it’s coincidentally cookbook week here at Alphamom. Who would have thunk it? We go from nuthin’ on food to two posts in one week!
Whereas Amalah is sharing her family’s favorite cookbooks, I’m professing my love for Everyday Food.
Don’t hate me, but I was invited to a Mother’s Day Brunch– torn from the magazine pages of their May issue and prepared– at Everyday Food’s real test kitchen within the Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia offices. Yes, I consider this an early Mother’s Day gift. Because really? It was a divine and rare treat.
There was fabulous company, like my friend Betsy who writes for Cool Mom Picks, and I made new friends like Jennifer from In Jennie’s Kitchen, Olga from Sassy Radish and Karen and Lizzy from Sunday Suppers (OMG- I LOVE their logo).
I was able to meet Anna Last, the Editor-In-Chief and the wonderful team that makes Everyday Food my favorite food and cooking magazine. I was also able to GUSH to them about why I love it so much: lots of recipes with few ingredients and limited steps. I also love meals that can be prepared in one-pot or on a baking sheet and then shoved into the oven.
So, when I saw how simple it is to make a Croque Madame (essentially a Croque Monsieur with a fried egg on top), I knew that it is one more for my repetoire. Other than the fried egg, all the cooking is done in the oven on a baking sheet. Me and my baking sheet are besties, LIKETHIS. Also, I’m an egg slut. Feed me a runny egg and I’m yours.

P.S. Bonus Mother’s Day treat. I was able to tour the prop room at the Martha Stewart offices. This is where they keep all their needs to make the pictures in the magazines and television shows look so beautiful. Oh my, so many cake stands!
