Welcome!

So this is the first installment of my new column. The plan is to discuss the goings on in the Alpha Mom business, interesting reads that I come across in the course of running this business, and basically anything else that strikes my fancy. As you can see, I hijacked Melissa’s Buzz Off last week since I just couldn’t wait to tell everybody about this irresistible personalized dinnerware I discovered. In short, topics will run the gamut.
Let’s talk site business: we just relaunched today with a brand new look and feel. No worries, our beloved columnists are still here and we have some more sections in the works. For now, I would like to give you a quick tour of the new features: our 1) 25,000 baby name search & rating system, and 2) maternity and children’s product ratings system. Please poke around and contribute. We hope our new baby names and product ratings systems will become go-to stops for you and your friends.
Our baby name search engine already has 25,000 names and definitions to search through. These names and definitions are provided by the leading author in baby names, Bruce Lansky. However, we have designed the system to allow users to provide feedback on individual names, create favorites’ lists and to add new names.
The product ratings system already has almost 800 parenting- and child-related products uploaded ready to be rated and reviewed by the parental community. Our goal is that parents will continue to grow that database by sharing their views and adding new products to be reviewed by others. Ultimately, the authenticity and effectiveness of the system is determined by its users. As such, we need parents like you (yes, I’m talking to you!) to be vocal, honest and clear in your ratings and comments.
Also, our video player is now on our homepage and will be updated daily. These are short webisodes of our programming that is televised on Alpha Mom TV. There are a lot more new videos on their way.
Lastly, I want to give a shout out to those who have contributed to getting this new site up: Phil McCluskey, Kyle Ford, Yoz Grahame and Ed Perchick. And of course, Jon Armstrong, who designed the new logo, handled the new web design and architecture, and continues to be an awesome project manager.
