Hebrew National Better-Than-A-Picnic PICNIC

By Isabel Kallman

This past weekend I co-hosted a Hebrew National Better-Than-A-Picnic PICNIC (yes, all caps– it was deserved) in NYC.  Hebrew National is starting the BBQ season off by hosting open-to-the-public picnics throughout the country.  And if the NYC picnic is any indication, hoo-boy the others are going to be awesome (see the complete list below), so check to see if they’ll be one in your town.

At the NYC picnic, all day long kids’ softball teams, families large and small and teams of police officers would stop by to get some free hot dogs.  And these weren’t just any hot dogs, these were by Hebrew National the company with perhaps the best tagline of all time– “We answer to a higher authority”–  a cheeky reference to its kosher standards. Me? I ate hot dogs, but mainly plotted how I could hijack that tricked-out Airstream trailer.

While you were there, you could ride a mechanical bull.

Actress Cheryl Hines was on hand to kick-off the festivities and participate in a community-service project benefiting The Magic Summer Lunch Box and The Food Bank For New York.  We decorated canvas lunch bags that will be given to local kids for their summer lunches.

There were lots of friends who came by with their babies, preschoolers, kids, tweens and dogs!

See, here’s photographic evidence that I was there. I even matched my scarf to HN’s colors (I totally did not plan that!).

The internet can be so awesome.   It lets you make friends online so that you can have more fun offline.

Here’s a list of the upcoming Hebrew National Better-Than-A-Picnic Picnics:

  • May 31 – Boston
  • June 5 – Pittsburgh
  • June 11 – Raleigh
  • June 13 – Charlotte
  • June 19 – Atlanta
  • June 26 – Tampa
  • June 27 – Orlando
  • July 3 – Cleveland

If you would like to attend any of these events, please email [email protected] for details.

Disclosure: As a co-host of the Hebrew National Better-Than-A-Picnic Picnic, I worked with The Motherhood and received a stipend for my involvement.
