Puppy Pajamas were not on my Wishlist

By Melissa Summers

Happy New Year!

How was your holiday? Did you get what you wanted?

I got something.

What are you looking at? You’re looking at what happens when your mother takes your daughter shopping to get you a Christmas present. If your mother does this and does absolutely zero steering, your daughter will buy you pajamas with puppies all over them. Because your daughter wants a puppy more than anything and wants you to wear pajamas which infantilize you.

Merry Christmas!

I was thinking, since I have to wear puppy pajamas for at least the next few months to show my appreciation, I’m doing to do some Post Holiday Shopping for myself. This is perfect timing because everything is on serious markdown at this point. For this little shopping trip, I’m mainly focusing on the major retailers so you can visit their stores for potentially better selection. (Additionally one of my post holiday gifts to myself will have anything to do with dogs.)

blackdress.jpgBack in November I eyed this dress for a wedding we were invited to. I showed it to my friend, who said, “Banana Republic? Yawn.” I didn’t buy it at that point, but not even because it’s so boring. I didn’t buy it because I’m cheap and I don’t like paying full price. But $99 and a cut which flatters my often curvy figure? A steal.
cashmerejcrew.jpgLet’s go onto J Crew, each year during their after Christmas sale I buy myself a very soft wool sweater. This year though, cashmere might be calling out to me. You’re yawning again, I know but it’s $99. Is this deep v neck more exciting? Good because it’s cheaper too! Also you must look at this dress, it’s more than 50% off and I’m not sure I can afford not to buy it.

embellishedcardigan.jpgNext up on my sale scavenging I’m looking at Boden. You can’t run into your mall for these deals and you have to move fast because they often sell out. But Boden is perhaps my favorite store and when they do their markdowns I am in a special type of heaven. This sweater is lovely and look! It’s not entirely boring, it’s embellished. I am also not sure how my life has been complete without this skirt and it goes with the cardigan! Perfect. 50% off people with no dogs!

What’s on your Post Holiday Wish List? Did you get doggy pajamas too? You lucky, lucky thing.

Edit: Make sure you check and for discount codes before you buy. Maybe you can get two gifts for yourself instead of one.

Ironically, I will be shopping for new pajamas. But most likely not with puppies on them.
(Also, J. Crew cashmere is the BEST–well made and affordable and ON SALE.)

I got a “penguin purse” complete with real life pom-pom’s on the penguin’s winter hats and earmuffs when MY mother took my son shopping. He is also 8. Could you imagine the treasures my son and your Maddie would find on a shopping trip together?

I will be shopping for new slippers. I don’t know how many more slippers I can buy for myself before people understand. I love me some cozy slippers.

Ironically, I have asked for pajamas for the past two years, and for two years now, no one has gotten me any! It’s simple – I just want flannel bottoms. I don’t care what color. Puppy print would be fine. I had to toss two pairs this year after the rear end ripped open from being threadbare.
-The only mom who wears PJ bottoms to the bus stop in the morning – but hey, I usually go back to bed, so why bother changing? lol

I usually look through It’s hit or miss, but the hits can be great.
Although I didn’t find it on Overstock, I did manage to order this yummy red wool coat online:|21473|21291|21297&lview=&cm_cg=C21297&tid=&c=&sc=&lp=w1i024

Lena: Love that dress…and the price!
Tracy: A penguin purse! How quaint. What I love is how they’re picking things they’d love. That’s kind of cute when you think about it. Not cute enough to be forced to wear puppy pajamas everyday, but still.
Alissa: I didn’t go into camera stuff….but I have a lense I’m going to purchase as soon as we recover from Xmas.

I love that sweater. And that skirt, and you’re right, life is simply not complete without them.
As for the pj’s, I gave the boys footie pajamas, even though their 12 and 8. Can you guess which one won’t wear them?

Ask him if he’d like my puppy pajamas instead. I’ll bet that will get him into the footie ones.

I must confess, I have flannel pjs with puppies on them, and I bought them for myself. I have rocket jammies too. I think I’m trying to get in touch with my inner child. But anyway, I have recently treated myself to sale purchases from both Boden and J. Crew. In fact, I’m wearing a brand new J. Crew cashmere turtleneck right now! So, aside from our differing opinions about pajamas, I think you’ve got great taste. Happy shopping.

I haven’t ordered anything from J.Crew in a while because I always thought everything they made was for 6-foot tall people who weigh 99 pounds. Is that not the case anymore? If so, it would make me happier than a vacation just like the ones in the J.Crew catalog.

Christy, I have to get a bigger size for myself there than I like but I can get a decent fit on most things (not jeans for my body though).

I only clicked on this story to see the *pyjamas*, honest – not for the promise of possibly seeing you in them. 🙂
So what would you rather have had on them? Chainsaws?

    Hey Melissa,
Why don’t you get these sheets to camouflage yourself. Kids will never know you’re there!

I own that Boden cardigan AND paid full price for it. I was a Boden virgin and did not know about the upcoming sale. Still, it was worth every penny. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I also got another outfit from Boden (sold out now) and will possibly request that I be buried in it. It’s a red crew neck sweater and dusty blue-grey suede skirt with red beadwork and appliques. There’s a picture of my butt in it here: http://norling.blogspot.com

Melissa – I’m not sure if you shopped already, but J.Crew marked everything down 20% more, when you put it in your cart. 😉
