Fitness Gifts that Keep Giving in 2014
I have a new best friend. It’s the Jawbone UP. It’s a very nice looking bracelet that tracks my daily movements. And now I’m addicted to counting how many steps I walk per day. I find myself walking stairs instead of taking the elevator and looking for other opportunities to get more walking into my daily life so that I can meet my personal daily movement goal. I’m even considering getting a, gulp, treadmill desk. The friends who see my bracelet ask me about it and I insist they must get an activity monitor, either the UP by Jawbone or another of the ones on the market (see below). They are all slightly different, but to me all of them are great, since I’m a big fan of any device that will motivate you to get up and moving more.
This prompted me to ask Liz Gumbinner who is the editor-in-chief of Cool Mom Picks, and is currently partnering with Target to help bring parents tech tips and ideas for the holidays, about her ideas for Fitness Gifts for this holiday season. Here’s what she shared:
Fitbit Flex Wristband
I am obsessed with this right now—- it’s completely addictive to check your calories, steps walked, and sleep quality each day which are all wirelessly sent to your PC or phone (Android and iOS). Not that moms need more of a reminder that they’re not getting enough sleep, ha. It’s also a great couple gift: Get one for your partner (or best friend) and see if you can’t make getting in shape a little more fun with some friendly competition.
Jawbone UP
Another awesome option in wearable fitness tech is the Jawbone UP which is a little more pricy, a little more streamlined, and has the added benefit of tracking nutritional info with a food and drink log. The alerts to your mobile device (there are two version, with one working both on the iOS and Android) are great for helping to keep you self-motivated.
Yurbuds Inspire Female In-Ear Sport Headphones
Over-ear headphones are cumbersome for trips to the gym, and these in-ear headphones are super comfortable at a really amazing price. I love that they’re designed to fit smaller ears—part of the reason they actually stay in. Plus they’re sweat and water-resistant, which is essential for workouts, of course. And so many cute colors!
GoPro HERO3 Camcorder
Our readers are in love with the GoPro, and even more so now with the lighter, more affordable HERO3 that’s just out. If you’re into any kind of outdoor activity, it’s a great way to get dynamic wide-angle stills or film that put you right in the action. You can even strap it right to a ski helmet, bike handlebars, or take shots while SCUBA diving down to almost 200-feet. So cool.
