What You Wore: Company Holiday Party Update

I thought I would let you know how my foray into the world of cocktail dresses worked out! I followed your most excellent advice and since my bust and hips measure the same, went for a sheath dress. I never in a million years would have thought to wear ANYTHING but an A-line!
It’s a stretch satin sheath dress by Donna Ricco, $158 at Nordstrom’s, and was the first one I tried on. No spaghetti straps, as per orders since the girls are quite bountiful; and the shirring/ruching at the waist made for an optical illusion that I swear took 4 inches and 20 lbs. off my midsection. The back was a deep V too, which I loved since I have no fat there at all (look there! Not at my thighs!!).
I tried it on with Kate Spade kitten heels at the store and though I loved them dearly, I was not about to shell out $275 for a pair of damn pumps. Buttery soft boots, well, that would be another story! But I thought the dress looked fine with a lower heel, so I picked up a pair of Linea Paolo patent leather peep-toe heels at Nordstrom Rack. Originally $89.95, they’d been marked down to $56.90 and then again to $34.90. And they’re very comfy, too!
The only piece of your advice that I didn’t follow to the letter was open-toed shoes with pantyhose. I’ve been cursed with spider veins since the age of 14 so I either wear hose, pants, or tell people I have a tattoo of a road map on my legs. Nordy’s control-top jet black sheer stockings: 3 for $10. Earrings by 1928/2028 at Macy’s, $18.00 minus 25%. Thin sparkly headband by Banana Republic, $18.00. Fashion advice from Amalah:

Way to rock it, lady! Sophisticated, classic and the headband adds the perfect amount of glammy fun. (Glammy. It’s a word.) (Now, anyway.) Satin is a tough fabric to pull off, but the ruching cinches your waist AND solves the puckering-across-the-gut problem that most satin dresses suffer from. Fabulous.
I wish you many more glammy parties and places to wear it to.
