Straight Up Raving

By Amalah

Dear Amalah,
I read your blog everyday plus the advice smackdown, but I’m usually a lurker 🙁
Anyways, I got a Sephora giftcard for my birthday, and I decided to try the Bourjois Coup de Theatre False Lash Illusion Mascara and I have to say this is a wonderful wonderful product. I mean I’m kind of with you on the actual mascara part not being the best thing in the world, and the wand is kind of odd, but it’s making my lashes soooo much prettier!!! So I can take those 2 pit falls.
Keep with the “Amalah’s NEW Product” review.
Thanks!
Leigh Ann

Your last sentence was ALL THE ENCOURAGEMENT I NEEDED.
Okay. So y’all. Zits. Let’s talk about zits.
I don’t get tons of bonafide zits anymore, but whenever I do (usually from stress or those pesky hormones) I’m always a little baffled about what to do with it. I’ve tried tons of “spot treatments” (Clinique, Clean & Clear, Neutrogena, Burt’s Bees, plain old witch hazel, just to name just a few), but none of them were particularly awesome. Some were just useless, while others were too harsh and actually made the situation worse. (What’s even more of a pain in the ass than a big red zit? A big red dried-out zit that cannot be covered up without looking scaley and nasty.)

So I was hesitant to try any more — even Philosophy’s On a Clear Day Blemish Serum, despite the fact that every other product in that line has been absolutely LIFE CHANGING. (Even Jason is using the Purity cleanser now and his skin looks way, way too perfect and flawless for a guy.) I totally balked at the price ($30) and figured it would be the same as other acne gels and over-dry my skin.
But in December, during all the stress of moving, my skin repeatedly broke out and I finally broke down and used a precious Sephora gift card on the serum.
And now is the time on the Advice Smackdown where my product review breaks down into squeals of AAHHH! EEEEEEE! SQUEEE! TEH AWESOME OMG.
And if we were on a playdate together, now is when I’d put my cocktail down and grab you by the shoulders to make sure you were really listening to my squeals of praise.
Because it works! It works! One application in the morning and your zit is gone by dinner! Use it at night and wake up zit-free! No dry patches! No irritation! Easy to apply makeup over! Requires just the tiniest dab of serum! $30 easily buys you a year of spot treatments!
(Yes! I have had coffee! What is your point!)
