Aging Eyes: Where No Eye Cream Has Gone Before

By Amalah

Amalah –

I am really noticing my age in my eyes, and am interested in trying some products to make them look better. What I can never tell is where you are supposed to put said products. Under the eyes, yes, but do you put them on your eyelids? Is there any miracle serum out there to make my crepe-y, starting to sag eyelids look better? I wear glasses all the time, and I usually wear mascara, but no other eye makeup. I probably should pluck my brows. Surgery is out of the question (a tummy tuck would be more to my liking.) Help!

Despite trying bucketfuls of them, there is really only one eye cream that has my undying loyalty, and that’s…you guessed it, grooooan…Philosophy’s Hope in a Tube Eye & Lip Firming Cream. It’s gentle and very concentrated (translation: that wee tube lasts a looooong time, so fear not the price tag), and OH YEAH. It actually does firm your skin up — I think it works particularly well on skin that’s just…saggy, like you seem to be experiencing.

A loss of elasticity is usually what comes first, before the actual deep non-erasable lines show up, and I really believe using this cream has kept a lot of lines at bay. I see lines when I do the annoying scrunchy-face thing I do whenever I laugh, but thanks to regular eye cream use, they are pretty invisible when I stop scrunching. (I’ve tried to stop scrunching so much, but eh. Would rather relax and be happy than all perfectly smooth.)

As for where you put eye cream? Simple: everywhere. Under your eyes (tap with your ring finger…no smearing), to the sides of your eyes (get BACK, crow’s feet, BACK!), and on your eyelids. Getting a line between your eyes, where your brow furrows? Dab a little there too! Laugh lines around your mouth? The Philosophy cream takes care of those too.

Other general tips for aging eye skin: always remove your eye makeup (whatever kind) very gently. I use the Purity face wash to remove mine, but I don’t rinse it off with a washcloth. I use a damp cotton ball and dab it off. Drink plenty of water, and treat yourself to some teabag/cucumber action occasionally. (Which holy HELL, that may be the dirtiest-sounding sentence I have EVER written. Go me!)
