I have done some of these things. Some I have done more often than others. Haven’t we all? Because we are human and flawed and sometimes want to take the easy way out of a situation. Or because we really don’t want to make our children upset. Or because we are just weary.
If your child was misbehaving and you were not around would you want another parent to say something to your child? Would you want them to call you and let you know about it afterward? Would you want them to do both? Or would it make you angry?
We all do it. We look at the way other people are parenting their kids and say to ourselves, I will never be like that. I will never do that. My kid will never behave like that. We are full of self righteous indignation and feel confident in our superior parenting skills!
Then it happens. One day you recognize yourself in some other parent and it isn’t a good thing.
