Little-Kid-Sized Backpacks

Last year, I was excited by the new back-to-school designs of the classic backpack maker Jansport. But this year, I’m really loving the smaller and more size-appropriate backpacks for little ones. Whenever I see a preschooler weighed down by an over-sized backpack I resist the urge to run behind him or her. They seem moments away from falling backwards, from giving into the gravitational pull of their overstuffed backpacks. What do they have in there anyways? It’s not like preschoolers have textbooks to carry home.

Anyway, this summer I decided that I was going to free my ingoing second-grader from his over-sized backpack. So I bought him a petite and perfectly-sized Crumpler Baby Pea backpack that I first read about on Cool Mom Picks. It fits his snacks, some toys, sunscreen, and even a lightweight change of clothes (seven-year-olds are small). During the school season (when he needs a big boy backpack for schoolwork), I plan to borrow his baby Crumpler when I need a small bag for the gym.

But, all of this got me thinking about all the sweet and more little-kid-sized backpacks out there. I found some new models by some of favorite and well-known designers juvenile products that are too irresistible to keep to myself. Check them out since back-to-school is around the corner for a number of folks already….
