Mommy Lovemarks: Charlie & Lola
Again, a Lovemark is more than a brand, it’s a relationship that touches your soul AND exceeds your expectations in performance.
Charlie and Lola is the first Mommy Lovemark I am highlighting. I think they had me at: I Will Not Ever Never Eat a Tomato.
Charlie and Lola hail from Britain and live in a series of books and TV shows which always start off the same way, older brother Charlie (age 7) introduces us to his small and very funny sister, Lola.
In the above Toe-ma-toe story, clever Charlie helps fussy eater Lola enjoy her dinner by introducing her to green drops from Greenland (peas) and cloud fluff from Mount Fuji (mashed potatoes). Thus, is the theme of most stories, patient and empathetic Charlie helps Lola navigate the daily life challenges of a preschooler. Along the way Charlie learns a lesson or two as well.
Author and illustrator Lauren Child’s drawings and art direction are eye candy. Charlie & Lola live in a house right out of the Designers Guild’s showroom with color and pattern bursts everywhere. And, their clothes? right out of a mini Marc Jacob’s sketch book.
Charlie’s and Lola’s accents slay me. Each night a book from our collection makes it into bedtime reading. I always use my lamely-faux British accent. But my son loves it and he recites passages in cockney. Guess what he’s going be sharing at Show & Tell this week?
Luckily the books and DVDs are available on Amazon and the TV show runs on the Disney Channel. We’re on the Amazon pre-order list for everything and anything Charlie & Lola. I expect it to continue that way until, um, my son is in high school.
Charlie & Lola is my favorite and my best.
