Summer Fun Checklist

School is winding down for my son and while the summer is principally defined by six weeks of day camp, it’s book-ended by a several weeks of unstructured time. While that’s great at first, I have found that those long relaxing days soon turn to restless ones if not occupied with fun outings and activities to anchor them.

This past weekend, my eight-year old son, husband and I sat around for about 30 minutes and came up with a list of 25 things we’d like to do this summer. To start off the conversation, I had a short list prepared with 10 ideas to discuss and build upon.

I love checklists, so we created a Summer Fun Checklist. Here are some items that are on our list:

– Publish a comic book
– Visit the top of the Empire State Building
– See Mr. Popper’s Penguins
– Learn to ride a bike
Make a Lemonade Stand
– See Spiderman on Broadway
– Have a chocolate shake at Shake Shack

If your kids or family would like to create your own Summer Fun Checklist, here’s a free printable for you to use. Just click on the image, download and print.

Here are some tips to get you started on creating your own checklist:

– Be a tourist in your area
– Be a local, getting to know your neighbors and neighborhood
– Have a fun dining experience
– Think about books you want to read
– Plan which movies you want to see this summer
– Reconnect with friends

I would love to hear about your own plans. Please do share or point me to your own lists in the comments section.
