Mother’s Day Jewelry Shopping Guide

By Isabel Kallman

Jewelry is probably one of the most gifted items during Mother’s Day and though I can fill pages with my recommendations for jewelry, the truth is that it is something very very personal to gift. I don’t know your mother, mother-in-law, daughter or wife. I don’t know her style. I don’t know how she wears her hair or its color. Whether right now she prefers fine jewelry or statement pieces.
However, I do know that there are a number of fantastic online retailers which are flush in jewelry I would love to own. So, instead of recommending specific items, I’m going to recommend online retailers that consistently merchandise well in in jewelry. I’m confident that from these guys below you will find something just right.
Fragments

Fragments is perhaps the most diverse of the bunch here. It categorizes its jewelry designers between fine and fashion. All of them are modern though, spanning a wide price range.
Charm & Chain

Charm & Chain is all about statement jewelry. It skews younger, but who knows how to work statement necklaces better than Grandma? Yeah, that would be no one. Much like Fragments, the site is great to navigate as it organizes jewelry by type, price range and designer. I could spend hours on this site.
V Vintage

Currently my favorite necklace is one my husband bought me from a vintage boutique. I absolutely adore it and would encourage you to consider vintage pieces if you’re in the market for jewelry. V Vintage is treasure trove of vintage goodness based in Beverly Hills that luckily for us lists its goods online. Since all pieces are one-of-a-kind and previously owned, they are not returnable. So familiarize yourself with the general policy. The good news is that the photography on the site is fantastic so you can get really good close-up views of the pieces for sale. Also, there is a wide selection, which you don’t always find when it comes to vintage.
Kim & Maki

Kim & Maki is a an online jeweler founded by women who spent most of their collective careers working for jewelry houses like Chanel and Verdura. They find stylish jewelry from around the globe that won’t break the bank. I find their selections hip although sweet.
The Fine Art of Family

Forget Tiffany’s. Instead visit The Fine Art of Family by Monica Rich Kosann. There you are guaranteed to find just the locket or charm you’ve been looking for.

Etsy

If you enter Etsy without a strategy, good luck to you because it is the time suck of the century. Instead, I would rely on their astute editors to guide you towards the best stuff in their Mother’s Day Guide. Pricing just doesn’t get any better.
Vivre

Vivre is owned by one of the most fashionable women on the planet who lovingly hand-picks all items. It’s a shop for those who love luxury but I have done well at their sales and if you’re looking to splurge this is a go-to site. Brace yourself for sticker shock though.

Sundance

Over the years I have watched as Sundance has quietly expanded its jewelry collection from a small section of its catalog into its own business. Their pieces range from the casual to the exquisite in fine jewelry with diverse price tags to match.

Kate Spade

It took YEARS, but I’ve finally recovered from Kate Spade exhaustion after seeing her iconic satin tote on every girl, woman and bag lady. I love Kate’s costume jewelry collections. In absolute terms it’s pricey but I guess I’m drawn especially to this collection because it reminds me of pieces by some of my favorite designers– Hermes, Me & Ro, Verdura– but without the hefty fine jewelry price tag (I guess I’m doing relative price tag comparisons here). (Psst, I usually shop their fabulous sales).
Got any favorite online jewelers that we need to know about?
