Shamrock Shirt DIY for St. Patrick’s Day
My daughter never seems to have anything green to wear for St. Patrick’s Day (everything is pink). Here is a simple way to dress up a plain white t-shirt for girls or boys to keep from getting pinched.
All you need is a pre-washed plain white shirt, green paint, paint brushes and some freezer paper.

Download the Shamrock Template or draw your own. Trace the shamrock onto the dull side of the freezer paper and cut out the shape. It is best to use a permanent marker for tracing to make sure the iron won’t smear the ink. Leave plenty of white paper around the shamrock.
Place a piece of cardboard in the middle of the shirt to prevent the paint from bleeding through to the backside of the shirt. It works best when a piece of freezer paper is ironed onto the back or the front of the shirt, where you want to paint. This keeps the fabric from stretching while painting. With a dry iron set on medium, iron the shiny side of the freezer paper to the t-shirt. Hold iron on freezer paper about 5 seconds.
Paint from the outside to the inside all the way around the stencil.
Then paint in the rest of the shamrock. We let the green paint dry a bit and then added a bit of transparent glitter paint.
Remove freezer paper and allow shirt to fully dry. Iron shamrocks using a pressing cloth and the shirt is finished!
So simple and cute! The best part was seeing how proud my daughter was wearing her shirt that she painted.
