Class Valentines : Hershey’s Kiss Lighthouse

By Lindsey Boardman

Why not help your kids make some cute mini lighthouses with Hershey’s Kisses lights on top for their friends and classmates this Valentine’s Day? The message tells them “You light the place up!” And, the printable template has the pieces to make three lighthouses on each letter sized sheet of card. A little bit of cutting and a little bit of gluing is all you need to do. You’ll also need a bag of Hershey’s Kisses, and either some sticky putty or double sided sticky tape to fix them into the top of the lighthouses.

Each lighthouse is made from two parts. One large part that forms the tower and message card, and a smaller piece that forms the railings at the top within which the Hershey’s kiss sits neatly. (pro tip: When you are printing out the template, don’t let the printer “scale to fit page” because the template is measured exactly for the Hershey’s Kisses to fit. It should print at 100% on either letter or A4 paper without any of the template pieces being cropped.)

Once you have your pieces cut out, it’s easiest to write your names on the message card before you start gluing everything together. To construct your lighthouse, fold the tower piece into a cone and glue the tab down it’s side. Fold along the line that joins the message part to make it stand out from the lighthouse. You can see the seam where the card is glued on the back in the photo below.

Next you will need to fold down the two tabs on the top of the tower and glue them together, one on top of the other.

The second bit of the template that makes the railings needs to be glued into a circle so that the Hershey’s Kiss fits neatly inside. Then you will need to fold down the two tabs and glue them together like you did with the ones on top of the tower.

Now you can glue the railings onto the tower so that the two sets of tabs cross each other. This makes a nice little nest into which the Hershey’s Kiss will fit snugly.

Lastly, to hold the candy in place, I used a little blob of blue tack, but a little square of double sided tape would be equally effective.
