Doodles for Lunch, Dinner and any other time.

My son just loves to draw. And I love to keep his hands busy particularly if we’re out to a meal where waiting even just a normal amount of time can seem an eternity for a busy boy like mine.

Doodles at Lunch

Luckily, a friend gifted us with Doodles at Lunch a book filled with 36 tear-out placemats, seemingly tailor-made for my son. Each placemat comes with a six-to-eight step visual instruction on how-to doodle your own wacky animal or food. The drawings require good fine motor control and are intricate enough that your child will feel quite proud of his accomplishments. Heck, even I felt accomplished when I tried myself. I don’t think our nations’ school systems spend enough time teaching our kids how to draw. This is a skill we can get better at.

The book uses letters, numbers and familiar shapes to instruct in the detailed illustrations. It’s very innovative and with enough practice I can see your child soon teaching classmates how to doodle these same images. It’s that simple.

When you’re done with Doodles at Lunch, you can move on to the companion Doodles at Dinner and now the follow-ups Chicken Doodle Soup and Super Hero Food Doodles. The recommended age is 6 years old, but if your kid is the type to get easily frustrated, you may want to try Doodle All Year by Taro Gomi first.
