Build a Felt Cupcake

By Rachel Meeks

Kids can build and decorate their own felt cupcakes. Make several and when you’re done, you have all the ingredients for more quiet playtime. It’s so small and portable, I’m going to take these cupcakes with us to keep my four-year-old daughter busy on an international flight this weekend.

The only supplies required are felt and scissors. Don’t sew or glue them together, and they can be put together again in several ways. Download and print this free template for the pieces.

For decorations you can make:

  • white squares for marshmallows
  • small pieces for sprinkles
  • red hearts for cherries
  • brown triangles for chocolate chips

Oh, the cuteness! Felt is by far my favorite crafting material. It’s so friendly for kids and craft-challenged mamas. I think I had as much fun as my daughter when we made these. If your child is too small to use scissors, let them choose which colors they want for the pieces and decorations, and if you’re feeling really bold, get out the glitter and some glue.
