School is back in session! Some children find stress balls and fidget toys extremely therapeutic. This DIY stress ball will not only keep hands busy but is also a fun craft to make!

The supplies are simple. For each stress ball you will need two balloons, about 1/3 cup of play dough and a Sharpie marker.

Take one balloon and fill it with the play dough.  Two pairs of hands make easy work of this task. Have one person hold the balloon open and the other can fill.

Once the play dough is inside the balloon, take it and put it inside the other balloon so you have two layers of balloons around the play dough.

When I was little, Pet Rocks were the rage.  I decided to introduce my daughter to this craze and it was a huge hit! She loved creating new pets. Meet her new frog. I loved that she painted a log for her frog and even a lily pad.

Search your yard for smooth rocks or pick some up at your local craft store like we did. Also be sure to pick up some Elmer’s Painters Paint Pens.

I love these Elmer’s Painters. They are a no-mess way to paint. The medium and fine tips allow a child make small details with paint with great success! They are also versatile. They paint on wood, metal, ceramic, plastic and fabric……….and rocks! (they are non-toxic but please be sure to use outside or in a well-ventilated area.)

Now let your child create some new friends!

These Elmer’s paint pens have become our go-to craft supply this summer. We have made wooden play figures for our sand castle and even personalized a bbq spatula for dad.

Keeping the kids busy during a holiday meal can be difficult! These bunny shaped crayons will make sure the kids are entertained and having fun during Easter lunch, brunch or dinner! They also make a festive addition to your table.

Bunny Crayons DIY by Cindy Hopper for Alphamom.com

Supplies for your DIY Bunny Crayons

All you need for this project is a heat-safe silicone mold and some crayons. This is a chance to use up those broken crayons! Wilton has the perfect bunny-shaped mold. Find this at any craft store.

Bunny Crayons DIY by Cindy Hopper for Alphamom.com

Directions to make Bunny Crayons

Unwrap crayons and break them into pieces that fit into the mold. Be generous and slightly overfill the molds.

Bunny Crayons DIY by Cindy Hopper for Alphamom.com

Place mold on a cookie sheet and bake at 300 degrees for about 10- 15 mins. Check every 5 mins. Once crayons are melted, remove from oven and let cool. I let them cool 10 minutes and then placed the mold in the refrigerator to cool for another 10 minutes.

Bunny Crayons DIY by Cindy Hopper for Alphamom.com

Once crayons are completely cool they will pop right out of the mold. Print off my Easter Coloring Sheet and you are ready to celebrate. You can even wrap up a few bunny crayons with a tag that says,”You’re some ‘bunny’ special” for a cute favor.

National Pancake Day is just around the corner (February 28th this year or March 4th if you’re celebrating Shrove Tuesday), but every morning can be a celebration of pancakes when you share a smile with these fun pancakes.

Easy Pancake Art by Cindy Hopper for Alphamom.com

This Pancake Art Batter Dispenser makes these pancakes super simple to make. First whip up your favorite pancakes. We use this simple pancake recipe.

Recipe for Easy Pancakes

1 1/4 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1 egg (lightly beaten)
1 cup milk (we use soy milk)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Mix dry ingredients together in a bowl.  Add in wet ingredients stirring until blended. Batter will be slightly lumpy. Pour batter into the pancake art batter dispenser.

This handy dispenser has a threaded top so you can add a plastic cake decorating coupler and pastry tip. We used a size 5 pastry tip.

Easy Pancake Art by Cindy Hopper for Alphamom.com

Heat skillet on medium heat. Once skillet is hot use the dispenser to draw a face. You can also draw letters for monogramed pancakes.

Allow the batter to cook. It will start to have bubbles that pop and look dry.

Remove the pastry tip from the bottle and cover the designs with more batter.

Snow Day Fun! http://alphamom.com/family-fun/snow-paint-how-to-for-snow-day-fun/ http://alphamom.com/family-fun/snow-paint-how-to-for-snow-day-fun/#comments Thu, 09 Jan 2014 21:13:05 +0000 http://alphamom.com/?p=30926

We have been having fun at our house with snow paint! It is the perfect way to enjoy the snow!

snow day 3

Snow paint is super easy to make and will keep kids (and adults) busy as long as they can stay outside! All you need are spray bottles with adjustable nozzles and food coloring. We found our squeeze bottles at the dollar store. Gel food coloring provided us with vibrant colors. (We used fuchsia, regal purple, mint green and orange). Regular liquid food coloring can also be used, but these gels are the type of food coloring we use for everything at my house. From frosting to craft projects it is great!

snow day 2

Fill the bottles about 1/4 the way full. Add several drops of food coloring and shake well. We continued adding food coloring until we liked the color. You can test it on a paper towel.  Now you are ready to head outside and paint.

We loved snow painting!

Next time we decided we will make animals out of snow and paint them!
